Pressure is coming.

Stress at work, tension at home, temptation, fear, or discouragement. The question is not if pressure will hit. The question is what we’re standing on when it does.

This week on Equipped in 5, we’re talking about standing firm on Christ and His Word.

One verse. Every morning. Before your phone.

Equipped to Lead Podcast: Welcome to Equipped in Five. Five minutes, one scripture, and one challenge to help us start the week ready to lead. Today we're talking about what it looks like to stand firm when pressure hits. And we all know pressure's coming. It doesn't always show up the same way, but it shows up. Sometimes it's stress at work, sometimes it's tension at home, sometimes it's temptation that seems to hit when we're already tired and worn down. It may come through criticism, fear, discouragement, Are just the normal weight of responsibility. You wake up Monday morning and before your coffee even gets going, your phone's buzzing, work is already backed up, your spouse or kids need something, and your attitude is already trying to head south. That's real life. And the question isn't, will pressure come? The question is, what are we standing on when it does? Our scripture today comes from Ephesians chapter 6, verse 13, where Paul says, Therefore, take up the full armor of God so that you will be able to resist on the evil day, and having done everything to stand firm. That phrase having done everything to stand firm is important. Paul doesn't talk like pressure might come, he talks like it will come. There will be days when the battle feels heavier, there will be days when temptation feels stronger, there will be days when discouragement feels louder. There will also be days when fear starts talking like it owns the place. And in those moments, we need more than a good mood, motivation, or a quote we saw online. We need God's truth because pressure reveals what we're standing on. We can look steady when everything is easy. We can talk strong when nothing is testing us. We can say all the right things when nobody is pushing back. But then the pressure comes and stress hits. Then our marriage gets tense, our work gets heavy, our temptations show up. Somebody criticizes us and our plans fall apart, and all of a sudden what we're really standing on starts showing. That's not always comfortable, but it can be merciful because God often uses pressure not to crush us, but to show us where we need to be strengthened. The goal isn't to pretend like nothing bothers us. That's not biblical manhood. That's just us acting tough. The goal is to become men who are anchored, men who can feel pressure and still obey. Men who can be tired and still speak with self-control. Men who can be tempted and still flee. Men who can be criticized and still stay humble. Men who can be afraid and still trust the Lord. That kind of man doesn't happen by accident. He's built on truth. That's why Paul tells us to take up the full armor of God, not just part of it, not just the pieces we like, but the full armor. Because we're not strong enough on our own to stand firm under the kind of pressures that this world throws at us. We need the Lord and His Word. We need truth in us before the pressure gets there. That's where a lot of us get ourselves in trouble. We wait until we're already angry before we look for self control. We wait until we're already tempted before we think about purity. We wait until fear has already been running its mouth before we pray. We wait until we're already discouraged before we even open scripture. But if we want to stand firm when the pressure hits, we need God's truth in us before the pressure hits. We can't live off spiritual leftovers. We can't only open the Bible when life falls apart. We can't only pray when we're desperate. Now, thank God He meets us there too. He is a merciful God, but there's wisdom in preparing before the battle. Nobody waits until the hurricane is already throwing debris through the window to start boarding it up. You can handle what needs handled before the weather turns ugly. Same thing spiritually. We need God's word shaping us before stress starts pressing on us, before temptation starts whispering, our fears start lying, or our emotions start driving the truck. Because if our emotions are driving, we're probably heading somewhere bad. God's word gives us something solid to come back to, because everything else moves around. Our culture changes, our feelings shift, opinions change depending on who we're listening to. Our motivation is strong one day and gone the next. But God's word doesn't move. Christ doesn't change. So when pressure hits, we don't have to figure out truth from scratch. We come back to what God has already said that He is faithful, Christ is Lord. Sin doesn't get the final word, fear doesn't own us, temptation can be resisted, our identity isn't found in our performance, and our hope isn't built on everything going our way. That's the kind of truth that holds a man steady when life starts pushing on him. So here's your Monday challenge. Choose one verse to carry with you this week. Just one. Don't overcomplicate it. Pick one verse that speaks to where pressure is hitting you right now. If you're anxious, Choose a verse about trusting the Lord. If you're tempted, choose a verse about fleeing sin. If you're discouraged, choose a verse about God's faithfulness. If you're angry, choose a verse about self-control or guarding your tongue. Write it down, put it somewhere you'll see it. Read it every morning before you check your phone, your text, your notifications, or your emails. Before you let the world start talking, let God's word speak first. And when pressure hits this week, Come back to that verse. Say it out loud if you need to, pray through it, let it steady you, because we don't stand firm on opinions, emotions, or motivation. We stand firm on Christ and His Word. That's the challenge this week. One verse every morning before your phone. Ask the Lord to root you in his word and make you steady under pressure. Then take the next faithful step. Lead with strength, serve with humility, love like Christ, and Be strong and lead well.
